werfafvalTrefwoord: BAMB construction économie circulaire ressources Samenvatting: This synthesis report provides a snapshot of the current context and known opportunities and barriers to a circular building sector, reversible building design and Materials Passports. The main technical, economic, financial, environmental, legal, spatial and logistic drivers/causes for the known (types of) actors within the current value chain have been investigated.
Focusing on the European context, and the countries involved within the BAMB project, it investigated: value chain at building product level and building level ; building information modelling (BIM); commonly used methods to refurbish and maintain buildings for major construction types; causes of demolition of buildings and major maintenance needs; construction and demolition waste estimates; re-use potential of buildings, components and materials within the existing buildings stock; solutions to accelerate reuse; initiatives and regulations; financial and business models.
This is a publication of the European project “Buildings as Material Banks” (BAMB, 9/2015-2/2019, www.bamb2020.eu) coordinated by Brussels Environment, which received funding from the EU Horizon 2020 research & innovation programme.

werfafvalTrefwoord: BAMB construction économie circulaire ressources conception Samenvatting: At the time of diminishing of resources and increase of environmental problems, it has become crucial to understand the capacities of buildings to transform a negative environmental impact of built environment to a positive one. The question is: how does one transform the current linear approach to design of buildings that has one ‘end-of-life’ option (demolition) to a circular design solution that will guarantee multiple life options of the building as well as of its systems, products and materials?
This synthesis of BAMB report D11 looks into three dimensions of transformation (1) dimension of spatial flexibility of building; (2) dimension of technical flexibility of systems and product; and (3) dimension for material flexibility that can make a transition from a linear to circular building. Buildings designed with three dimensions of transformation open opportunities for a great palette of new value propositions of buildings and its systems, products and materials. Those buildings are called reversible buildings.

werfafvalTrefwoord: BAMB construction économie circulaire, ressources, conception Samenvatting: This report provides a synthesis of the feasibility analyses performed for each of the 6 BAMB pilot projects that are spread geographically across Europe. These feasibility studies investigate the challenges, opportunities and barriers identified regarding the implementation of Reversible Building concepts. They prepare the later prototyping and construction phases detailed in reports D12 and D13.
New design, manufacturing, construction and maintenance approaches for dynamic and circular buildings are being investigated and demonstrated. Various operational and testing environments are chosen. Reversible Building Design approaches, the implementation of Materials Passports, new business models for circular material value chains, organized supplier communities, etc. developed in other work packages are being investigated in the 6 real construction or refurbishment projects. The constructions are funded foremost by private partner investments. These private partners assign experts (designers, engineers, production houses, contractors…) for the design, manufacturing and construction of the pilots.
